Wirra Wirra Organic Tempranillo 2022, McLaren Vale

One of the region’s heritage names, Wirra Wirra was first founded in 1894 by eccentric former cricketer Robert Strangways Wigley. He purchased vast swathes of land in the Mc Laren Vale, but it later fell into disrepair. In the 1960s winemaker Richard Trott acquired the vineyards and began restoring them to the thriving state they enjoy today. While Mc Laren Vale is known for red wines, you won’t often see this Spanish variety here: Tempranillo. The wine’s grapes come from a single certified-organic vineyard – resulting in a bold and spicy wine bottling with notes of black plum, cherry, liquorice and dried herbs. Proof that Australasia is never standing still when it comes to winemaking.
