Sileni ‘The Sleeping Giant’ Syrah 2022, Hawke’s Bay

Named after the Greek god of wine’s mythological companions, Sileni have made their headquarters in New Zealand’s oldest wine-growing region, Hawke’s Bay. The first vines were planted in the area in 1851 by missionaries, but the scene has come a long way and Sileni boasts a modern state-of-the-art winery. The local Syrah has won plaudits from wine critics, with this bottling coming from grapes harvested within the Bridge Pa Triangle District – one of the warmest pockets. Bottled early to capture its vibrancy, it has rich flavours of plum and blackberry, with hints of spice and flowers. Sweet and spiced fruit flavours are supported by juicy acidity. Pair with game meats or barbecued dishes.
