Description
Pierre Rostaing, now in charge of winemaking at the estate, is stunning critics with the quality of his Côte-Rôtie wines. His father René started in 1971 with less than half a hectare, split between the Côte Blonde and La Landonne. He inherited another 5.5 hectares from his father-in-law and uncle, and now, having handed over much to Pierre, they make some of the appellation’s finest wines. Their aim is to make them taste of true Côte-Rôtie terroir, and eschew the riper, easy styles. Blended from 13 different parcels, Ampodium is their ‘entry level’ and is “reaching new heights” (Wine Advocate). It is firm, layered and muscular. Approachable now if decanted well beforehand, this wine will improve enormously with age. Exquisite with lamb.
