Description
The cru village of Vacqueyras lies close to Châteauneuf-du-Pape and produces very appealing wines at a more affordable price. Domaine Montirius is a small, highly acclaimed, fifth-generation estate there, run by Christine and Eric Saurel. Here they use all native varieties from 30-year-old vines and crop at very small yields, all in the name of intensity. Biodynamic methods (even more rigorous than organic) ensure delicious pure fruit notes, plus expression of its terroir ie where it’s from. The vineyards teem with flora and fauna and there is no denying the wine tastes remarkable. Le Clos comes from their beautiful, woodland-enclosed vineyard, hence its name. Peppery, black-fruit Syrah and raspberry-scented Grenache, it’s great with lamb.
