Welcome to Ardbeg, one of Islay’s eight world famous distilleries. Founded in 1815, they boast a swathe of international awards, and in the last ten years alone have won such prestigious titles as ‘World Whisky of the Year’, ‘Scotch Whisky of the Year’ and ‘World’s Best Single Malt’. The Ardbeg 10 Year Old, their house style, is the world’s peatiest whisky. But if you’re expecting An Oa to be a typical ‘surf ‘n’ turf’ Islay, think again. It’s crafted from spirits aged in a variety of casks, formerly used to age such delights as intense PX sherry, and fine US bourbon. These add beguiling notes of butterscotch, black pepper and clove to the classic Ardbeg peat, dark chocolate and aniseed. Add a drop of water to release a crescendo of flavour.
