Ernie and Jane Hunter were the first to put New Zealand on the world wine map. That was with Sauvignon Blanc from the little vineyard beside their winery – the Home Block. When shown outside New Zealand at our 1986 London Vintage Festival, their 1985 simply astonished customers and experts alike. It won every award going, sparked New Zealand newspaper headlines and a debate in the NZ parliament! The country suddenly realised it had an extraordinary wine to offer the world. Hunter’s today remains family owned, but has extended well beyond the Home Block. This special release is all Sauvignon from the original vineyard. With four months’ ageing on lees, but no bâtonnage (stirring), the wine sings with fruit finesse. A great seafood white.
