Glenrothes 18 year Old has spent almost two decades maturing in Sherry-seasoned oak casks. The result is rich and festive; it’s almost like someone has laid out a Christmas banquet on heavily polished antique furniture deep in a wine cellar. There’s ham, prunes, Medjool dates, gingerbread, figs, mince pies, fruitcake, pecan pie, peanut butter cups, walnut baklava, marzipan, praline, fudge, cherry chocolate liqueurs, cigars, coffee, rooibos tea, lapsang souchong, Sherry, Madeira, pears, oranges and rose water. Unctuous, nutty and unbelievably complex, it’s a great one to have in the collection for the winter months. The Glenrothes has been quietly creating some of Scotland’s most underrated malt whisky since 1879. This traditional Speyside distillery in Rothes still makes whisky the same way it did when it first opened. Famed for its use of Sherry-seasoned oak from Jerez in Spain, the whiskies are as pleasing and rounded as the signature bottles.
