This fine estate was founded in 1810 by Nicolas Schlumberger, who planted vineyards on the slopes above the village of Guebwiller (the only town in Alsace which has four Grands Crus classés). Over its 200-year history, Schlumberger has since grown to be one of France’s finest properties. It has extensive holdings – 180 hectares of vines, with an 80% share in three of Alsace’s greatest Grand Cru sites. The 6th and 7th generations now run the estate. Their ‘S’ range has been created as a ‘grand tour’ of the prestigious vineyards in the region. Matured on lees for a wonderful creamy note, this white is beautifully balanced and harmonious. Pour chilled into large glasses and savour the quality solo, or pair with Gravlax or mushrooms on toast.
