This 10 year old single malt from the wonderful Deanston Distillery used to be finished in casks that had up to now held red wine from the world-famous Bordeaux region of France.
This wine cask finish has imparted a full-bodied sweetness to the whisky, balancing its creamy, malty notes with splashes of damson, cherry and only a hint of dark chocolate.
An outstanding late night dram.
Nose: Sweet and fruity at the first nose. Red apples, strong berries. Pleasant alcohol strength. The red wine is instantly and clearly there. After the primary sip, it shows herbs and a little bit more spicy notes overall Taste: Pleasantly creamy at the tongue. Here again the fruity berries, the red apple and pleasant sweetness. Over the years, fine acidity and drier red wine notes. Some chocolate at the palate. Finish: Pleasantly dry and spicy, but still somewhat fruity and sweet overall.
